How To Make Money From Websites? I have been dabbling in the online world for many years and in the process, I discovered that there is money to be made from websites if you are willing to source good information and put that information into practice.
Though things have changed over the years, you can still make money from websites. I will explain how I make money from websites by discussing four important foundational elements.
How To Make Money From Websites?
When it comes to making money online, we are often told you can make money instantly. However, reality tells us otherwise. It takes time to make money from websites.
If you do it right, it can take one to two years before you make good money from your websites. In the early days of the internet, it was easier to make money but today you will need to be wiser in how you build and monetize your websites.
Here are my four important foundational elements for making money from websites.
1. Learn How To Create Websites
If you want to make money from your websites, then you need to learn how to create websites.
I use WORDPRESS for all my websites even though I am a website designer. WORDPRESS is so easy to use. After all, WORDPRESS is a content management system and this system does all the hard work for you. This is what you need to create WORDPRESS websites.
A. Purchase Web Hosting
If you are serious about having a go at making money from websites, then you need to purchase web hosting.
I could spend all day telling you about the pros and cons relating to which web hosting companies is best. But the reality is you will need to make a decision sooner or later and select a web hosting account.
I personally use BLUEHOST (if you click on the link and purchase web hosting from BLUEHOST, I get a small commission for providing this link). I have used BLUEHOST for many years and I have found that it works for me.
I have several web hosting accounts and BLUEHOST is one of them. I would purchase the basic hosting if I were just starting out. You can always upgrade if your websites begins to garner heaps of traffic.
B. Choose the Right Domain Name
You will need to register a domain name. This is the url for your website. The url for this website is: informationperks.com.
If you purchase web hosting from BLUEHOST, then they will give you one domain name free. Usually, a domain name will cost between $12 and $17 annually. So BLUEHOST provides a reasonable deal.
It is best to choose a domain name relating to the subject or topic of your niche website. If you are going to create a website around photography, you may choose: myphotographytips.com. Of course, you will need to see if your chosen url is available.
C. Upload WordPress
Once you have purchased web hosting and you have chosen the right domain name, you will need to download WORDPRESS. WORDPRESS is free!
Once you download WORDPRESS, you will need to upload it to your web hosting account. If you don’t know how to do this, then just go to YOUTUBE and search for the appropriate steps for this. It’s not that difficult to do!
D. Purchase WordPress Theme
Again, I could spend all day arguing the pros and cons to free of paid for themes. But if you are serious about making money from website, then a small investment into a good wordpress theme is the way to go.
I personally used genesis platform with a child theme. You can check these themes at www.studiopress.com.
I use genesis with the magazine pro child theme. It works well for my needs and it has a great look and feel to it.
2. Decide What Type of Websites To Create!
I just want to mention three types of websites – information websites (content based), affiliate websites (review based) and product websites (product based).
I usually create information websites. With information websites, you can link to affiliate products and you can link to products like an electronic infoproduct.
Information websites are basically content based websites and they cost very little to create and develop.
There are three features to information websites.
A. You need to uncover a profitable niche
When it comes to information websites, most people choose a niche around their expertise. If you are good at photography, you may want to create a photography website. If you are good at cooking, you may want to create a cooking website.
It is important to choose a niche that is not too broad or not too narrow. Take your time choosing your niche website and will pay great dividends in the end!
B. You will need to write content to your information website
When you write content to your information website, you will need to keep several things in mind – long-tail keywords, types of content and number of words in each post.
Long-tail keywords: Why is this important? Well, you need to write your post around what people are searching for on google, yahoo or bing.
I am a keen photographer and I am constantly looking for information about photography. I wanted to take a moon shot so I typed in google the following keywords: How to set your camera for a moon shot? I found an article that helped me set my camera for a moon shot.
Types of content: Why is this important? Well, content is what drives people to your website. If you have good content, then the search engines will rate your information highly and place you on page one of their organic search.
Let’s look at the different types of content. I usually write three types of content. I write posts that look at how to…. For example, how to set your camera for a moon shot or how to take night photographs with long exposures? How to posts are about 1200 words long.
I write posts that give tips for…. For example, I may write a post on 5 tips for taking long exposure photographs or five tips for great composition for landscape photography or six tips for dramatic blue sky images. These posts are usually about 1500 words in length.
I write posts that give in depth content. These are pillar posts for your information websites. For example, you may write a pillar post on the pros and cons of buying a full-frame camera verses a crop camera or the pros and cons of buying a brand lens (Nikon or Canon) or third party lens (Tamron or Sigma). These posts are around 3500 words.
It would be to your advantage to initially write around 30 posts to your websites. If you write 10 how to posts, 10 tips for posts and 10 in depth posts, you give yourself great opportunity to drive traffic to your websites.
3. Learn How to Drive Traffic To Websites
The greatest struggle for making money from websites is driving traffic to your information websites.
It is important to grasp the reality that your content is what drives traffic to your information websites. Therefore, you need to get your content right and you need to create that content around what people are searching for. People are always looking for good information!
But there are other ways to drive traffic to your information websites. I use social media to drive traffic to my information websites, mainly pinterest, twitter and facebook. I find pinterest is the best for driving traffic these days.
You drive traffic to your information website by your content and social media. Don’t forget this!
4. Learn How to Monetize Websites
You can monetize your websites in three ways – google adsense, affiliate offers and infoproducts.
I have a holiday information website that I monetize solely with google adsense. I have other information websites that I monetise with both google adsense and affiliate offers. I also have information websites that I monetize with only infoproducts. Usually, these information websites are very narrow in their niche.
